The Trenton Golden Hawks have added some local talent to their roster. The franchise recently announced the signings of defencemen Matt Hicks, Ty McCambridge and forward Gage Butcher.

All three skaters honed their skills throughout their youth with the Quinte Red Devils Minor Hockey Association. After strong performances last season, they are now poised to continue their development within the Golden Hawks organization.

Matt Hicks, a right-handed defenceman, made a strong impression in his U16 campaign with the Red Devils, registering eight points in 35 regular season contests. He continued his steady play in the postseason, collecting four points in ten games.

He also had a brief but promising stint with the Golden Hawks last season as an under-ager. In his lone appearance with the Golden Hawks, the 15-year-old recorded a single assist.

His early exposure to the OJHL should serve him well in the upcoming season. The Quinte West native also trains with World Elite Academy in Belleville. The only hockey program in the region that includes fitness and conditioning, on ice as well as a fully accredited educational training.

Ty McCambridge joins the Golden Hawks following a standout rookie season with the Frankford Huskies in the PJHL.

The smooth-skating right-handed rearguard tallied an impressive 15 goals and 36 assists over 42 games, earning himself a Tod Division Defenceman of the Year honours. The 18-year-old also appeared in four games with Trenton as an affiliated player.

The contributions of the Corbyville resident made him a mainstay with the Huskies, and highlight his potential for the Golden Hawks in the upcoming season.

Gage Butcher also showcased his offensive skills with the Huskies in his most recent campaign. The 18-year-old Trentonian notched 26 goals and 18 assists for a total of 44 points in 42 games with Frankford, placing him fourth in team scoring.

Butcher and McCambridge helped the Huskies secure the Tod Division Regular Season title with a record of 30 wins, eight regulation losses, and four overtime losses—a remarkable achievement for a franchise that had just one victory in its inaugural season.

Head coach and general manager Derek Smith is excited about his recent acquisitions, emphasizing the hard work and potential they have demonstrated throughout their young careers.

"They worked very hard to improve their games last season and have good hockey skills and dedication. We look forward to them joining the team and developing their game," he said in a team press release. "With strong veterans in our dressing room, these players have a great opportunity to learn and strive to be future leaders for the team."

As the Golden Hawks prepare for the upcoming season, the addition of Hicks, McCambridge and Butcher demonstrates their commitment to not only developing local talent but building a strong foundation for future success.
